Kitsap Mental Health Services (KMHS) is seeking a Behavioral Health Technician Shift Supervisor to provide leadership and support for Behavioral Health Technicians for our Residential Services team. This position helps ensure staff have the guidance, training, and oversight needed to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for clients. The role serves as a key operational resource during each shift and supports effective service delivery across the milieu. Primary Responsibilities:

•         Supervise Behavioral Health Technicians in completion of assigned duties, documentation, and daily operational responsibilities.

•         Provide training, coaching, and ongoing support to Behavioral Health Technicians and Behavioral Health Technicians-Medication Observation.

•         Promote trauma-informed communication and professional interactions with clients, staff, and community partners.

•         Support accurate and timely documentation within the Electronic Health Record.

•         Conduct regular individual and group supervision meetings in collaboration with Operations Supervisors.

•         Maintain confidential supervision records, coaching notes, and performance-related documentation.

•         Participate in staff training, coaching, development planning, and corrective action processes as needed.

•         Participate in interviews and hiring activities in collaboration with unit leadership.

•         Complete performance appraisal responsibilities in collaboration with Operations Supervisors.

•         Promote positive staff morale, team building, staff recognition, and professional communication.

•         Monitor milieu acuity and client risk levels throughout the shift.

•         Collaborate with Operations Supervisors to support de-escalation and safety interventions when needed.

•         Assist unit leadership in maintaining appropriate staffing levels and arranging additional coverage when required.

•         Lead shift pass-downs and communicate client, safety, and operational updates to incoming staff.

•         Conduct chart audits of Behavioral Health Technician documentation to support compliance with applicable WAC requirements.

•         Model evidence-based behavioral interventions, trauma-informed care principles, professionalism, and effective communication.

•         Participate in interviewing, selection, scheduling, coaching, and evaluation of direct reports.

•         Collaborate with program leadership during the annual performance review process.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE: Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience or equivalent education in similar field)

LICENSURE: Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration

 

Preferred Qualifications:

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, social services, or behavioral health field or equivalent experience in Behavioral Health.

EXPERIENCE: Specialist (minimum 5 years of job-related experience)

Inpatient/residential work experience, supervisory experience, and teaching ability.

Relevant experience working with clients with severe and persistent mental illness.

 

Performance Requirements:

KNOWLEDGE:

  1. Maintain a working knowledge and skill in verbal de-escalation skills as outlined in Pro-ACT/CPI trainings and other agency-mandated trainings.
  2. Maintain knowledge of unit policies and procedures and work collaboratively with departmental Leadership.

 

SKILLS:

  1. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, clients, organizations, and the public.
  2. Must possess good verbal and written communication skills
  3. Proficiency in MS applications preferred.

 

ABILITIES:

  1. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively as a team member

 

Equipment Operated: Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.

 

Work Environment: Residential treatment facility.

 

Mental/Physical Requirements: While performing the job duties, the employee is required to stand, sit, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, ascend and descend stairs, talk or listen and lift to 50 pounds. Peripheral vision is also required for this position. Frequent mobility and/or sitting required for extended periods. 

 

  • Ability to maintain audio and visual observation at all times.
  • Ability to stand and be mobile for long periods of time.
  • Ability to bend, twist, reach, hold and lift as needed to successfully evade and/or participate in protective holds against client weight (40 -250lbs).
  • Ability to lift and carry items up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to remain calm and utilize safety training in potentially assaultive client interactions.
  • Ability to move quickly and confidently to assist or intervene when needed in potentially stressful situations.
  • Successful completion of safety training, which includes demonstration of ability to:  maintain balance, torso twist, forward bend, pivot, sidestep, forward and backward step, crouch, move to secure limb, knee touch to ground, kneel, get up from floor sitting or kneeling position.
